Goodbye, Tumblr.

It’s been fun, but I’ve realized that Tumblr just isn’t for me. I doubt anyone REALLY wants to read about what happens in my life daily, in fact, I’m sure no one here wants to hear about that :)

So, I’ve decided to move out of Tumblr and to my own blog:

Feel free to visit me there :D

I’ve been pretty fortunate that I started my career during my undergraduate education at Seattle University. Interestingly enough, I didn’t actually know at the time that “user experience” would be my career, but here I am 5 years later still in the same industry, and loving every minute of it.
Throughout my career, I’ve always been attracted to working for large corporations. From Microsoft to Amazon, to eBay to Oracle…they’ve always been on my radar. Maybe it’s knowing that they are financially stable and I’d be taken care of, or maybe it’s the security that the company is “less likely” to go out of business that attracts me.
Whatever the reason may be, I can’t ignore that there are other companies, start-ups, who are also striving to build a foundation for their business. Touche’ to these people for making a sacrifice and following their dreams. This makes me wonder…what would it be like to work for a smaller company? One that has less than 50 people, who actually have their CEO’s, Presidents and VP’s come to the meetings, and small teams who collaborate with one another. However, I almost feel like there is somewhat of a “risk” to working with these companies. How do you know they are financially stable? What if something unexpected happens with the company?
I guess this is something you’d have to gamble with. There’s nothing wrong with it, but definitely gives you something to think about.

My mom has always been my best friend. I know a lot of people say this, but I really do sincerely mean that when I say it. I literally tell her everything…from my every day troubles to my personal relationships. She listens. She’s patient. And she always knows the right words to say, even if I don’t agree with her.
This morning was refreshing when I called her to say hi and tell her about things that are going on in my life. She made me laugh, cry, smile, and reminded me that I’m stronger than I think I am. Goodness gracious, I miss her like crazy. If I could take the next flight out to Seattle to surprise her…I would. There’s definitely no other woman like my mother, she’s amazing!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY LOVELY COUSIN, ASHLEY!!!
I can’t believe you are 22! I still remember when I would buy you Sanrio stationary for Christmas :P I wish I was in Washington celebrating with you and the cousins, but know that I’ll be there in spirit. Who knows, maybe I’ll surprise everyone and fly down there this weekend!

Researchers and Coffee.
The other day, Roel and I were talking about our jobs, just like we usually do when we’re sharing our day with one another. Interestingly enough, both of us are in the same industry, so he has experience with working with people with my job title (user researcher) and I have experience with working with people with his job title (software engineer).
He made a valid observation about coffee and researchers in our conversation the other day. Why is it that people in my industry drink way too much coffee…daily? Being a user researcher, I don’t think our job is “too” stressing. Of course at times there are deadlines that must be met, but that’s just the nature of the field.
Every morning at work, my fellow usability engineers come to my desk to let me know there is “freshly” brewed coffee in the kitchen, and my immediate reaction is to jump out of my seat and grab a hot, fresh cup. I don’t know ONE researcher that doesn’t drink coffee every morning, afternoon and sometimes night! Looking back at my days at the Microsoft Games Studios - we had an automatic Starbucks coffee maker. You would literally press a button and the machine would grind your beans, brew your coffee, and would give you a perfect single cup. Even back then, I would go into work and go straight to the coffee maker, and to this day - that same habit sticks with me.

Memorial Day Weekend 2011

I honestly don’t even know where to begin this blog entry. This past weekend was absolutely amazing! I was so lucky to have all my family and friends in town to help me celebrate both my birthday and my Master’s graduation.

Wednesday: Mic, Smalls, Eebon and Jon flew into town, and we shopped til’ we dropped on Haight Street and ate at Cha Cha Chas. Sangria’s were flowing and laughter was non-stop. Later that night, Roel and I waited for Derek and Neida to get into town, where we then met up with the crew in the city and ate at Osha Thai (how can you not when you’re in the city?)

Thursday: We all decided to go to AT&T park to enjoy the sun, beers, and each other’s company. It was sooooooo much fun. The guys ended up drinking at the bar across the street while us girls stuck around the park where random guys asked if they could take our picture. Haha, funny story. Funny memories.

Friday: Friday was my BIG day. Not only was it my birthday, but it was also my Master’s graduation. I was blessed to have everyone there to help me celebrate both events.

Saturday: A day full of shopping, eating, partying, and sleeping. :)

Sunday: Bittersweet day, I must say. With everyone all packed up, we spent our last day playing movie charades in the middle of Hayes Valley.

Press play in the video above. That pretty much sums up the awesome weekend.

AT&T park with my lovelies.

On Thursday, May 26th, my fam and friends from Seattle and L.A. came into town for my graduation and birthday. We started off the weekend with watching a Giants Game at AT&T Park. What an incredible time with the people I love the most!

Thanks Smalls for making the video! Memories that will never be forgotten :D
